Why participate in a clinical study?

Participating in a clinical trial means:

  • Contributing to scientific progress and the advancement of medical knowledge.
  • Gaining access to innovative treatments that may be more effective than standard care.
  • Receiving free care or emerging therapies targeting your condition for the duration of the study.

How to participate in a clinical trial?

  • Our team helps you understand the consent form, procedures, and the potential risks and benefits of participation.

  • You will have time to reflect and ask any questions. Your decision to participate must be free, informed, and made with confidence.

  • The lead physician will ensure that you meet all inclusion and exclusion criteria, through:

    • Surveys
    • Physical exams
    • Blood tests
    • Review of your current treatments, etc.
  • If you are eligible, you will begin treatment (medication or placebo) according to the study protocol. Regular visits will be scheduled to monitor your health and collect the necessary research data.

  • The data collected will help determine the safety and effectiveness of the treatment evaluated in the clinical trial.

During the study

Your well-being and safety are our top priorities.

  • Take the medication as prescribed.

  • Attend all scheduled clinical appointments.

  • Inform the study team of any health or medication changes.

The main phases of clinical research

  • First administration of the drug in humans, usually with healthy volunteers, to assess safety and tolerance at various doses. In cases of significant risk (e.g., rare diseases), patients with the condition may be included.

  • Conducted with a small group of patients with the target condition to confirm safety and begin assessing short-term effectiveness.

  • Large-scale trial involving numerous patients to validate long-term efficacy and safety. The results are used to apply for marketing authorization from regulatory agencies (e.g., Health Canada and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration).

  • Follow-up studies after the drug has been marketed. These studies refine knowledge about efficacy and safety during long-term use in real-world conditions.
